Stress urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine during activities that increase abdominal pressure, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, and exercise. It commonly occurs when the pelvic floor muscles and connective tissues are not providing adequate support to the bladder and urethra.

Urge urinary incontinence is characterized by a sudden, intense urge to urinate followed by involuntary leakage.

Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when pelvic organs such as the bladder, uterus, or rectum descend into the vaginal canal due to weakened support structures. You may be experiencing a feeling of heaviness or pressure, a visible or palpable vaginal bulge, and/or changes in bladder or bowel function.

Vaginismus involves an involuntary tightening of the pelvic floor muscles, often making penetration painful or not possible.

Endometriosis is a chronic, painful disease where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus. Symptoms include persistent or cyclical pelvic pain, painful periods, pain with intercourse, and bowel or bladder-related discomfort.

During pregnancy, one can experience pain in the hips, pelvis, and/or lower back. You may be experiencing difficulty with walking, getting out of bed, or standing. Common conditions include symphysis pubic disorder (“lightening crotch”), round ligament pain, and low back pain.

It involves inflammation of the bladder wall, affecting people by causing pain that often intensifies as the bladder fills.

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) is a common condition caused by decreased estrogen levels, affecting up to 77% of menopausal women. It encompasses symptoms like vaginal dryness, burning, pain during intercourse, and urinary issues such as urinary incontinence, urgency, and recurrent urinary tract infections.

A study conducted in 2018 revealed that over 95% of women experiencing lumbopelvic pain (low back pain) have some form of pelvic floor dysfunction. If you have been suffering with chronic low back pain without any lasting relief, a pelvic floor assessment is recommended.
